Color Me Fabrics – The Kisses Co.
My daughter, Neve, loves to color. I’ve also been known to enjoy a little coloring time, especially with my kiddos. I really think one of the most precious kiddo mementos are their early writing/drawing/coloring projects. I am so drawn to them. I cherish them! When I heard about colorable fabric, I knew we needed to have some, so that I could really put my babes’ art into a keepsake that I/we can always have.
Ikea carries the kind I tried out first. I really like the print, but the fabric itself is a canvas, making it a little trickier for me to use. Only because I would rather sew clothing, and canvas isn’t a super apparel-y type fabric.
Fairly recently, though, Hayley Crouse/Welcome to the Mouse House who is a familiar name in the sewing/blogging/pattern design world worked up Color Me Fabric and Michael Miller Fabrics printed it on quilting/apparel cotton! Yay! Being a mom of both boys and a girl, I had to get both the whimsical princess and the space/rocketship prints . Of course.
Neve has been asking me to color the fabric with her for a while now. Life finally calmed down a bit and we made time yesterday. Before I knew it, Cade sat down with us and was coloring the boy fabric. A little while later, Hale joined in on the Ikea print. It was awesome. Nevey and I finished a piece big enough for the front of a dress for her. The boys called it quits before I had a piece from them that I could really turn into anything, but I think I’ll have them work on it just a bit each day. Then, they each want theirs turned into pillowcases. I’m really excited to do this! If there happens to be a rainy day, where coincidentally Cade finds himself banned from electronics, AND bored to tears… I might just convince him to let me teach him to sew his own pillowcase. The stars will really need to align first, though.
Back on track… Neve and I finished a panel for a dress for her! While the kiddos napped yesterday afternoon, I took her piece and some extra fabrics and cut out the Summertime Dreams dress pattern (by My Treasured Heirlooms). I chose it for its large front piece (to showcase her artwork) and its super quick and simple design. Plus, it has a reversible option, so she technically gets two new dresses! I realized as I was cutting out the pattern for her size that this pattern came with a free dolly pattern, too! I just have only begun to dabble in dolly clothing construction, but I decided Nevey’s American Girl dolly, Kit, would need a dress, too.
I worked all afternoon (not a huge fan of store-bought bias tape… I seriously always get the wonky package of it…) and got both dresses sewn up. Then, just before the light ran out, I buzzed Nevey and her Kit outside for some quick pics.

And the reverse side is super pretty, too!
I love that we’ll be able to layer this dress through the cooler seasons, and then it’ll still fit next summer, too. I love a super versatile garment! Woohoo!
xoxo
